in a perfect world of yancies: Lights and Music

Lights and Music

The other day we got the tree up and decorated.

I like Christmas time; it's pretty . . .

Also did a little decorating for passersby.

It's so beautiful, isn't it? That's why I put it up on the Capitol Hill holiday awesomeness map.

In other news, I gave the last of my exams, worried about job security, and (finally) enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing night at Neumos.

The Dutchess and the Duke performing at the KEXP Yule Benefit.

Their set was maybe my favorite part of the show: I had only heard a song or two before, but I really enjoyed it. Was just the thing.

Have a listen:

Shearwater also performed.

A little on the arty side for my taste, but they were entertaining.

Most entertaining was the drummer, Thor, pictured here playing some sort of homemade dulcimer.

Grand Archives headlined the show. Here they are with a guest vocalist named Jen Ghetto.

Here's a favorite track:

Jingling bells, even!

  1. Just to clarify: my job worries are long-term. Things should be fine here for a while, so there's nothing you need to worry about, reader.

  3. Ya, you got me worried about SU for a bit there.
We are always worried about enrollment issues at Mac.

  5. I agree, cmd!!

I imagine things can get pretty touch and go at Mac: what is the enrollment, like 97 students?

Looks like SU will be fine (though that's not quite certain either, since no one knows what will happen with this year's record freshman class . . .). I was just hoping I'd get more action interview-wise; found out the other day that a couple of the schools I was interested in have started making interview plans w/out me.

Neither was a perfect fit, and I'm thrilled to stay here another year, but I'd rather be the one making that decision, you know?

Anyway, thanks for your concern and all that, reader.
